CLASH DETECTION

Identifying and resolving design clashes before construction to reduce rework, delays, and project costs.

Systematic, documented clash detection across all disciplines — catching conflicts on screen, before they become conflicts on site.

Overview

Federated Model Review

We create coordinated federated BIM models by combining Landscape, Architecture, Structure, Civil, and MEP disciplines into a single coordination environment. This holistic review allows project teams to visualize the complete project, identify interface issues, verify constructability, and detect conflicts that cannot be identified within individual discipline models alone.

Clash Rule Setup

Effective clash detection begins with well-defined coordination rules. We develop project-specific clash test matrices that target relevant model elements and coordination priorities. Our workflows include hard clashes (physical intersections), clearance clashes (required maintenance and installation space), workflow clashes (construction sequencing conflicts), and buried utility clashes involving irrigation, drainage, electrical, communication, water supply, sewer, and other underground services. Each test is tailored to the project's construction methodology and BIM Execution Plan (BEP).

Comprehensive Clash Reports

Every coordination cycle produces structured, easy-to-understand clash reports that prioritize issues according to their impact on construction. Reports include visual viewpoints, clash descriptions, element identification, responsibility assignments, severity classifications, recommended actions, and issue tracking references. This enables consultants, contractors, and project managers to resolve coordination issues efficiently and maintain a transparent coordination process.

Resolution Tracking & Issue Management

Identifying clashes is only the first step. We manage each issue through its complete lifecycle, from initial detection and assignment to verification and final closure. Every clash is tracked across coordination meetings and model revisions until the conflict has been fully resolved and validated within the updated federated model. This structured approach ensures that issues are not repeatedly reopened or overlooked during later project stages.

Continuous Coordination Reviews

Rather than relying on isolated model checks, we perform regular coordination reviews throughout design development and construction documentation. As models evolve, new coordination checks are carried out to capture emerging conflicts, validate previous resolutions, and maintain alignment between all disciplines before information is issued for construction.

What's Included

Clash detection delivers real value only when it becomes an integral part of the BIM coordination process—not a one-time exercise performed at the end of design. Projects that wait until the design freeze to perform clash detection often discover conflicts too late, resulting in redesign, construction delays, site rework, and unnecessary costs.

At Asterwix, clash detection is embedded throughout the project lifecycle. Every design revision is reviewed, new conflicts are identified early, and previously reported issues are verified until fully resolved. This proactive workflow gives project teams greater confidence that coordinated models accurately reflect construction intent before work begins on site.

Our systematic coordination process has helped projects achieve an average reduction of up to 75% in coordination clashes before construction, leading to fewer RFIs, reduced rework, improved installation efficiency, and smoother project delivery.

At Asterwix, we don't just identify clashes—we manage, coordinate, and resolve them, ensuring every BIM model is accurate, coordinated, and construction-ready before it reaches the site.
