BIM SHOP DRAWINGS

Producing accurate, coordinated, and construction-ready shop drawings directly from intelligent BIM models.

Shop drawings extracted directly from the coordinated model — reducing the translation errors that happen when drawings are produced separately from the model they're supposed to represent.

Overview

Federated Model Review

We combine Landscape, Architecture, Structure, Civil, and MEP models into a single federated BIM model for comprehensive multidisciplinary coordination. This integrated review enables our team to identify design conflicts, verify interfaces between disciplines, and ensure that all project components work together before construction begins. By reviewing the complete project rather than individual models, we reduce coordination risks and improve constructability.

Clash Rule Setup

Every project requires a tailored coordination strategy. We develop project-specific clash detection rules based on discipline, system type, construction methodology, and project priorities. Our coordination includes hard clashes, clearance and maintenance space verification, buried utility conflicts, equipment access zones, and service routing validation. This targeted approach minimizes false positives while ensuring critical issues are identified early.

Comprehensive Clash Reports

Each coordination cycle generates structured clash reports that clearly communicate issues to the entire project team. Reports include clash descriptions, element IDs, responsible disciplines, severity classification, screenshots, viewpoints, recommended actions, and issue status. This provides consultants, contractors, and project managers with a clear roadmap for resolving coordination issues efficiently.

Resolution Tracking & Issue Management

Finding clashes is only the beginning. We actively manage every coordination issue through to confirmed resolution. Each clash is assigned, monitored, reviewed during coordination meetings, and verified after model updates to ensure it has been fully resolved. This disciplined workflow prevents recurring issues and maintains a coordinated, construction-ready BIM model throughout the project lifecycle.

Continuous Coordination Reviews

As designs evolve, new conflicts naturally emerge. Our coordination process includes regular model reviews throughout design development and construction documentation, ensuring every design revision is validated before being issued. This continuous approach keeps all disciplines aligned and significantly reduces construction risks.

What's Included

Clash detection is not simply running software—it is an ongoing coordination process. Performing a single clash detection exercise at the end of design often identifies issues too late, when resolving them can require redesign, construction delays, or costly site modifications.

At Asterwix, clash detection is embedded into every stage of the BIM coordination workflow. Each design update is reviewed, new clashes are identified, existing issues are tracked, and resolutions are verified before models are approved for construction.

By integrating clash detection into continuous multidisciplinary coordination, we help clients reduce RFIs, minimize site rework, improve installation efficiency, and increase confidence that every discipline is working from coordinated, construction-ready information.

Through our structured BIM coordination process, Asterwix has consistently helped projects achieve up to a 75% reduction in coordination clashes before construction begins—saving time, reducing costs, and improving project delivery quality.
